AHASFV President's Message — July, 2009

Hi There!

Can you believe it is July already???

This month we have another AHASFV FIESTA FUN SHOW on July 12th. This time Benji is cooking up fabulous barbecued chicken. So please mark your calendars, clip those horses (or not) and come on down to this event. You don't even need traditional show attire. Mark Stinson of Cal Poly Pomona is going to judge and critique… a perfect time to school your show horse or show him off to your friends!

Show flyer, entry form and rules
are available in the
AHASFV Shows section!
Our Benji Barbeque Show on May 31st was a blast with 44 horses and everyone having a good time. We had a few open horses but we were mostly Arabians and Half-Arabians. Joanne Fox very kindly donated her time and did an outstanding job!!! I also would like to thank all of the other volunteers who helped us make this a successful

Benji BBQ Show Volunteers
and exhibitor friendly show: Courtney Surfas, Jeff Reichman, Sebastian Bosso, Mario Vega, Mari Malagon, Gabby Villagomez, Deb Dimich, Kylie Joseph, Tracy Tomicki, Conilee Kirkpatrick, Gracie Gray, Meaghan Shaffer, David Surfas and Emily Parsons. This well attended event made a good dent in the funds we need to raise to send our AHASFV/Region 2 Youth to the AHA Youth Nationals to
compete in judging… but we still need to raise more money to be able to pull this off and this is our last fundraiser before those youth leave for Albuquerque on July 29th!

The Speaker Meeting and tour of West Coast Equine Hospital on June 7th was another well attended happening. We had 50 reservations and more than enough Continental Breakfast food to make everyone happy. Dr. Kemper gave an informative presentation on gastric ulcer syndrome and showed us the equipment needed to test for this condition.

We have another Trail Ride scheduled at Point Magu/Rancho Sierra Vista, Newbury Park area on August 9th. Cynthia Binder will lead a longer more challenging ride and Meaghan Shaffer will lead an easy ride. Visit our Trail Rides section for complete details.

I look forward to seeing you at our upcoming events!

Yours truly,
Teri Gonzalez-Reichman
AHASFV President
