The California Futurity |

The California Futurity is a non-profit managed by a Board of Directors consisting of Harold Green, Henry Metz, Jay Constanti, Bill Porcher and Cory Soltau. Harold Green is currently President of the Futurity and Elizabeth Green is Secretary/Treasurer. All positions are voluntary and non-paid.
The California Futurity is designed as a Three-Year-Old Purebred Arabian futurity and is open to horses conceived in California, sired by Stallions standing in California or owned or leased by residents of California. Nominees will be judged according to the rules of the U.S.A.E. breeding/halter, Arabian Horse Division, or other such rules as The California Futurity deems appropriate.
As the very successful Cal-Bred Futurity phased out (last classes were held in 2006), The California Futurity phased in with our first classes for Yearling Fillies and Yearling Colts/Geldings held Saturday evening at 7:00 p.m., May 28, 2005 at the Arabian Horse Association of the San Fernando Valley's annual show in Santa Barbara.
The format for The California Futurity classes will be structured very much like the Cal-Bred classes in the beginning, although The California Futurity will feature a Top Five rather than a Top Ten. The Board of Directors of The California Futurity is looking for venues for classes in future years to increase the interest and participation in the Futurity, such as the addition of Maturity Performance Classes for Four- and Five-year-olds in Hunter Pleasure and Western Pleasure. They are also looking at innovative ways to “liven up” the actual classes to give them a new look to increase spectator interest in the hope of generating general audiences outside the immediate Arabian Community.
As a result of declining numbers of breedings in recent years and thus fewer entries in the Futurities, The Board of Directors implemented a Stallion Participation plan to increase the purse for the Three-Year-Old classes.
A summary of the first two years of operation is under preparation and will be forwarded to the Futurity participants in the near future. The response in the first two years has been very enthusiastic. The renomination count for the 2004 foals is 70% of the original nominations. The Stallion Participation in the Secondary Purse has also been very encouraging and we urge every stallion owner to consider participation in this program to further enhance the size of the purses. Please be aware that if your Stallion is not a participant in this program, and his offspring is Champion or Reserve or Top Five Three-Year-Old, that offspring cannot participate in the Secondary Purse.
